New chapters – Jim and Shirley’s attraction to Caldecote Fields

25th September 2024

Jim Allan and his wife, Shirley, wanted to move out of their townhouse in Henlow, Bedfordshire, but stay within the county and find a more traditional home. After viewing Caldecote Fields, Upper Caldecote, the couple found it ticked all their boxes and decided it was where they wanted to start the next chapter of their lives.

Jim and Shirley wanted a traditional style home with all the benefits of a new build, which are built to higher standards than older homes and provide improved energy efficiency. They also wanted direct access from the lounge to the garden, which is exactly what their Bromstone home provides.

The couple elaborated on their decision: “We’ve lived in the area for a long time and had visited Upper Caldecote before – it’s a quaint village with lots of charm. There are plenty of picturesque dog walking routes which is ideal for our young Cocker Spaniel. Knowing the area so well, when we came across the homes at Caldecote Fields, we immediately fell in love with the community.”

The traditional layout of the home provides more space than their previous home, one of the key components Jim and Shirley were looking for. The separate dining room is one of their favourite features, providing space for hosting friends and family. Additionally, the large garage offers further practical storage space.

One of the main elements that made Caldecote Fields stand out for Jim and Shirley was the individuality of all the homes, with the mix of architectural styles adding character and personality to the scheme.

Jim explains: “The quality of the builds themselves, from design through to performance, is excellent – it’s one of the first things we wanted reassurance on and the homes at Caldecote Fields do not disappoint. There’s a wonderful diversity to the street scene which brings this extra sense of traditionality to the whole community.”

When it came to the purchasing process, Abbey New Homes guided Jim and Shirley through it to make it as simple as possible for them. The homebuilder helped the couple sell their existing property and introduced them to the company’s Assisted Move Scheme, a free service that helps people sell their existing home at its full market value through Abbey New Homes’ approved agents. Furthermore, the company allowed Jim and Shirley to reserve a home at Caldecote Fields while the sale of their old home was ongoing.

Upon exchange and completion, Abbey New Homes conducted a thorough walk-through for Jim and Shirley as they stepped into their new home, explaining every nuance of the house.

The couple described the moment they bought their new home: “It was incredibly exciting – everything moved like clockwork, much thanks to Abbey New Homes dedication to supporting us throughout the process. The extra cherry on top was that they left a thoughtful hamper for us upon arrival, which was a lovely, warm gesture that made the move even more special.”
