Lenham – A perfect setting in the Garden of England

9th August 2022

It may be tucked away in the heart of the North Downs but it’s a village with a thriving community and a delightful choice of shops pubs and restaurants…you wouldn’t believe it’s only nine miles east from the town of Maidstone. Picturesque, charming and historic, Lenham, is the home of our newest development, Liberty View, an exclusive collection of 2, 3 and 4 bedroom homes.

Lenham is well connected for travelling and commuting further afield. The village has retained its railway station, with regular direct trains to London Victoria and Ashford International, while the nearby A20 provides quick links to the M20 in both directions. Buses to Maidstone take around 32 minutes.

Lenham Primary and Secondary Schools are both located within the village, so education for children of all ages is available within walking distance. Meanwhile Lenham Community Centre is the village’s hub for a range of clubs and activities, with plenty of events to enjoy. There is an historic Parish Church, traditional square and more local amenities than its initial picture postcard image suggests with GP and dental surgeries, food and gift shops, art gallery and antiques dealer.

Set within 500 acres of beautiful parkland, there is the 900-year-old Leeds Castle, just five miles away, named the loveliest castle in the world! And as you would expect, the beautiful countryside is bursting with quality accommodation and Stately country house hotels such as Chilston Park.

The county town of Maidstone is a prime destination for serious shopping, entertainment, sport and culture. Lockmeadow Entertainment Centre alone offers an Odeon cinema, restaurants, bowling alley and David Lloyd Sports and Health Club, while the public Maidstone Leisure Centre has a gym, five swimming pools and adventure area for younger children. Across Maidstone, you will find vineyards producing great wines and ciders. There is also Kent Life, a premier farm attraction boasting the last coal-fired oast house in the country. This 28-acre site celebrates age-old farming traditions, with lots of rare breeds and historic buildings to discover.

Various Farmers Markets provide good quality, mouth-watering local produce (did you know that the Wimbledon Strawberries are grown in Maidstone?!) and locally made goods, where shoppers can find genuine Kentish products.

A tree-lined market square framed by charming historic buildings forms the heart of the community and is host to The Dog & Bear Hotel from where we will be launching off-plan this Autumn. Construction has commenced and all the foundations are now in with showhomes expected to be ready for viewing at the end of the year.

“This is an exciting development for us at Abbey as there has been a surge in demand for countryside living since the pandemic began and we are pleased to say that we are able to accommodate this demand by offering beautiful homes in the peaceful Kent countryside. We look forward to getting to know the local community over the coming months”, says Stephen Holbrook, Sales Director for Abbey New Homes.
