Giving the gift of reading

14th March 2025

Reading is one of life’s biggest treasures. It can educate, inform and entertain. This is especially true for children, opening up new worlds, allowing them to experience different cultures, ideas and perspectives.

World Book Day is a global celebration of books and reading, observed annually in over 100 countries. It is a day dedicated to encouraging children to explore the joys of books and reading by providing them with the opportunity to have a book of their own.

By fostering a love for reading at an early age, we equip children with the tools they need to succeed academically and personally. It not only enhances their vocabulary and comprehension but also stimulates their imagination and creativity.

To mark the occasion this year, we donated a collection of books to Sandown School in Kent. The school has been making a big push to encourage students to get into reading, as it is a habit that is often picked up young and followed through in later life.

Mr. Adrian Cooke, the Reading Lead at Sandown School, expressed his gratitude, saying, “Huge thanks to Abbey New Homes for the donation of books for World Book Day. Our pupil librarians will proudly display them in our school library, and I am sure the children will all love to read them.”

“World Book Day is not just about giving books; it is about inspiring a lifelong love of reading. When children have access to a diverse range of books, they are more likely to find stories that resonate with them and spark their interest. We hope the books donated by Abbey New Homes will help ignite this passion for reading among the students of Sandown School.”

Tina Sutcliffe, Sales Manager, Abbey New Homes, added: “It was great to visit Sandown School and make a donation, seeing the excitement from the kids and the passion they have for reading.

“Partnerships such as this between Abbey New Homes and Sandown School exemplifies the positive impact that businesses can have on their local communities.“

We hope investing in the education and well-being of children, contributes to a brighter future for all. Together, we can ensure that every child has the opportunity to discover the magic of books and the joy of reading.
