Abbey New Homes is a subsidiary of Abbey plc whose principal activities are residential housing development in the UK, Ireland and the Czech Republic. For two generations, the sales sign in front of our Abbey New homes developments has become a familiar sight in the South East of England. With many thousands of homes and satisfied customers to our credit, we continue to offer ‘Beautiful Homes, Attractively Priced’.
Abbey New Homes is pleased to welcome you to Havilland Wood an attractive development of one and two bedroom apartments and two, three, four and five bedroom houses situated in the market town of Mildenhall.
Mildenhall is located in the centre of Forest Heath in Suffolk, a pretty area of unspoilt countryside. The River Lark flows through the town, the banks of which are popular with walkers and cyclists. The Aspal Close Nature Reserve is located on the outskirts of town, a rare ancient wood pasture and chalk grassland.
The area’s history is reflected in the many timber framed buildings in the town centre, some of which date back to the 16th Century. An impressive landmark on the distant skyline is the tower of St Mary’s Church with its exquisitely carvedangel hammerbeams in its aisled ceilings. Mildenhall is most famous for the treasure that was discovered in the area in 1942. This fourth Century collection of 34 pieces of Roman silver tableware is exhibited in the British Museum.Information about the treasure can be found in the local Museum. The town centre’s focal point is the attractive market place which consists of a 16th century hexagonal market cross and town pump. The weekly market is held on a Friday and there are a range of small local shops in the town centre. Bury St Edmunds, Thetford and Newmarket offer a wider range of shops. Leisure facilities include the Mildenhall swimming pool and the Dome Leisure Centre. Newmarket, situated approximately ten miles from Mildenhall is widely renowned as being the headquarters of British horseracing.
There are a selection of primary and secondary schools in the area and for further education, Mildenhall College of Technology offers a wide range of courses. Mildenhall is conveniently situated close to Newmarket and approximately 26 miles from Cambridge. The area offers good links to London, with the A11 (which leads to the M11) approximately a mile from your new home.
