an exciting future. Several interesting museums and events celebrate its connections with Charles Dickens, its maritime history, defence role and rural life. Highlights of the year include Broadstairs’ Dickens Festival and Folk Week, while summer in the resorts offers everything from traditional shows and children’s entertainers to al fresco dining on world cuisines, including Thai, Vietnamese and Persian.
There are beaches to suit everyone, from Broadstairs’ hidden gem, Botany Bay, to Joss Bay, the best surfing beach in Thanet. The arts are also well represented, with small studios displaying highly original work, and a wide spectrum of entertainment in the cinemas and theatres of the resorts. The shopping experience can be fast and efficient or fun and frivolous. A browse among antique and tea shops, or serious retail therapy at Westwood Cross Shopping Centre, where the 40 outlets (some restaurants) include Marks & Spencer, TopShop, Debenhams and Next. There are branches of Tesco, Asda and Sainsbury close by. Moving to a new home opens up horizons, and often increases leisure time. At Mere Way, there are fabulous opportunities to make this quality time.

The development can be found at the junction of Nash Road and Star Lane, on the outskirts of Margate where the town also nudges both Broadstairs and Ramsgate. There are frequent trains between London Victoria, the journey time averaging 1 hour 50 minutes. A new high-speed rail link is scheduled to open by 2009.
There are also rail connections with the Eurostar passenger terminal in Ashford for Lille, Paris and Brussels, and several ferry services to the Continent for passengers and vehicles. Kent International Airport offers passenger flights to short haul European destinations.

Mere Way is a stylish collection of 2 bedroom apartments, together with a limited number of 4 bedroom town houses, situated in Westwood, Thanet, Kent. This excellent commuter location has the bonus of a major new shopping and leisure complex, Westwood Cross.
Westwood is destined to become a much sought-after address, and not for the first time will it have a high profile.
For history has turned full circle, in that the Victorians were very much attracted to this area, visiting it in large numbers from London to enjoy healthy sea air and bathing, and a Continental atmosphere.
Nearby Tivoli Park, a valley with pleasant rural views, and other local places take their names from the terraced water gardens in Italy that inspired Victorian entrepreneur John Sinclair to create the Tivoli Pleasure Gardens here in the 1800s. The romantic grounds boasted a promenade where the Victorians strolled in their finery, Chinese arbours, conservatories, bowling green, a lake, concert room, Parisian style coffee room and Swiss cottages. Firework displays were held and performances given by London opera singers. The railway company was persuaded to build a halt for the visitors from London, while others arrived by boat at the pier.
Now, long after the gardens have closed and become overgrown, the tide has turned. Londoners again come to The Isle of Thanet to escape their congested city, ‘chill out’ and discover the Blue Flag beaches, culture and heritage, and great shopping. The Continental lifestyle has re-emerged too, with the opening of cosmopolitan bars and restaurants, town centre regeneration and close links with Europe. The playground of the south-east, this is not for a day visit but the place to live all year round. Mere Way in Westwood makes it possible.
