Abbey New Homes is a subsidiary of Abbey Group plc whose principal activities are residential housing development in the UK, Ireland and the Czech Republic.
For two generations, the sales sign in front of our Abbey New homes developments has become a familiar sight in the South East of England. With many thousands of homes and satisfied customers to our credit, we continue to offer ‘Beautiful Homes, Attractively Priced’.
Abbey New Homes is pleased to welcome you to Dorcan Square, an attractive development of 2 bedroom apartments located close to the new village of Priory Vale and the historic old town of Swindon. The Old Town belonging to the parish of Blunsdon St Andrew was mentioned in the Domesday Book as early as 1086, under the name of ‘Bluntesdone. Predominantly a market town, like most in that time, it remained as such until the canals were built and brought more trade and people to the area in the early 19th century. In 1840 the Great Western Railway reached Swindon and the town was adopted to build engines and carry out maintenance. So the Railway Town was born and within 45 years the population grew ten-fold, expanding rapidly to become the biggest town in Wiltshire. In 1986 the railway works closed; but the impact of this was minimal as the Town’s industry by now was so diverse. The railways heritage lives on in the Steam Museum and is now an integral part of Swindon’s tourist industry.
Swindon, as you would expect, offers something for everyone - it’s a shoppers paradise with simply too many shops to list except to say it boasts many high street names together with many specialist independent retailers. There’s also the theatre, arts centres, festivals, great restaurants, fashionable bars and a premier nightclub. If this wasn’t enough, the refurbished buildings of the Great Western Railway now house one of Europe’s largest covered designer outlet centres.
For those seeking more active pursuits, the leisure activities in Swindon are numerous. The Oasis Leisure Centre on its own houses a family beach pool with giant slides, wave machine and water cannon. It caters for most sports in the multi purpose sports hall; it has a gym, 4 outdoor Astroturf pitches, an indoor bowling green, crèche, café, bar and free parking. For the less active there is the speedway and Swindon FC to follow and you can always return to the Oasis which hosts regular live events. Education is well catered for with a variety of primary and secondary schools and for further education there is the Swindon College.
Within the boundaries of Swindon and set amidst beautiful countryside, you will find delightful villages, Victorian Parks and historic market towns. Travel a little further afield and you will discover historic houses, prehistoric sites and some of the most breathtaking scenery to be found in England.
Dorcan Square is conveniently situated for the A419 with direct links to the M4, Bristol, Reading and London.
