Valence House is still preserved as the only survivor of the five manor houses once in Dagenham. It is now the home of the borough’s local museum and art gallery, situated in parkland and partially surrounded by a moat. It currently houses an impressive collection of artefacts and archives that tell the story of the lives of the people of Barking and Dagenham.

Alongside Valence House, Barking Abbey is still one of the most important religious archaeological sites in Europe, although all that remains of the old Abbey buildings is the Curfew Tower or Fire Bell Gate (rebuilt about 1460). It is easy to see why Dagenham’s popularity grew and hence many Londoners moved into the area during the early and middle part of the 20th century and Dagenham’s current heritage was born. With the people came the infrastructure and amenities that can still be enjoyed including many parks and open spaces.

Most notable of which is the award winning Eastbrookend Country Park which spreads over 80 hectares and has outstanding views.

Eastforge Grange is situated less than 1/2 a mile away from Parsloes Park, a lovely open space with a boating lake, bowling green, 2 tennis courts, a basketball court and 23 football pitches.

In between Eastbrookend and Beam Valley County Parks is The Chase Local Nature Reserve, which houses an abundance of wildlife including many different species of birds and plants.

Dagenham is also conveniently situated less than 30 miles from Southend on Sea providing easy access to the coast.

Leisure facilities in the area include Dagenham Swimming Pool, Goresbrook Leisure Centre and Dagenham Bowling.

In the town centre, there is a shopping centre and situated just 1 1/2 miles from the development is a large retail park.

Abbey New Homes is pleased to welcome you to Eastforge Grange, an attractive development of 1 and 2 bedroom apartments and 3 and 4 bedroom houses situated in a cul-de-sac off Hedgeman’s Road. Eastforge Grange is conveniently placed within walking distance of the local shops and Becontree tube station.

Dagenham is steeped in history, dating all the way back to the Stone Age. It was first mentioned in the charter of Barking Abbey dating from 687AD. Like many hamlets from that period, it grew into a very busy village housing farm workers and their families. There were several shops, four inns and the compulsory blacksmith's forge. The village did not alter much between the medieval period and the 19th century by which time Dagenham’s farmland had become market gardens supplying London with much needed fruit and vegetables. Dagenham in particular became famous for its rhubarb crop.

Some of its history is still evident with the local Parish Church of St Peter and St Paul which dates back to the 12th Century.

For further shopping facilities the renowned Lakeside shopping centre with over 300 shops is easily accessible.

There are a number of primary and secondary schools in the area and for further education there is the University of East London in Barking.

Dagenham offers excellent transport links with Becontree station located just a few minutes walk away from the development. The station is on the District line which provides a quick and convenient journey to London in approximately 30 minutes. Dagenham is also well situated for the A13, which leads you West into central London or East to the M25 and the coast.

The future of the area looks bright with the 2012 Olympic Village being built with its legacy of many sports and leisure facilities, home owners at Eastforge Grange will be perfectly placed to take full advantage of this new and envious amenity and the new infrastructure it is likely to bring.
